The Dragon Boat Festival arrives on June 19th this year. The team at Duma Machinery takes this occasion to send our warmest wishes to customers, partners, and colleagues across the global mining and aggregate industry. We hope the holiday brings a moment of rest and good health to you and your families.

A Festival of Ritual and Remembrance
The Dragon Boat Festival - Duanwu Jie - falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month each year and has been observed in China for over two thousand years. Its origins trace back to Qu Yuan, a poet and statesman of ancient China whose loyalty to his country and refusal to compromise his principles have made him one of the most enduring figures in Chinese cultural memory. The traditions that grew from his story - dragon boat races, zongzi rice dumplings, and the gathering of families - have carried forward with remarkable consistency across the centuries.
The Living Customs Behind the Holiday
What strikes many people encountering Duanwu for the first time is how physical and sensory the festival is. It is not a quiet occasion.
Dragon boat races are the centerpiece. Crews of paddlers, sometimes twenty or more to a boat, race to the beat of a drum mounted at the bow. The boats are long and low, painted in bold colors, and the races are genuinely competitive. What began as a community act of mourning became, over time, a sport - one now practiced at international level in countries far beyond China.
Zongzi are the taste of the season. These are parcels of glutinous rice, packed with fillings that vary by region - salted egg yolk and pork in the south, sweet red bean or jujube in the north - wrapped tightly in bamboo leaves and steamed. Families make them together, and they are exchanged as gifts between households and colleagues. The wrapping itself takes practice; a well-made zongzi holds its shape through cooking and unwraps cleanly.
Mugwort and calamus are cut and hung at doorways throughout China during the festival. The fifth lunar month carries old associations with heat, insects, and illness, and these aromatic plants have long been used as a practical and symbolic defense. The smell of fresh mugwort is, for many Chinese people, inseparable from the memory of the holiday.
Children in many parts of China wear five-color silk braided bracelets - woven from red, yellow, blue, white, and black thread - tied on the wrist on the morning of the festival. They are worn until the first rain after the holiday, then thrown into the water. The custom is simple and old, and it remains widely practiced.

From Our Workshop to Yours
Duma Machinery manufactures crusher wear parts - jaw plates, concave bowl liners, mantle cones, and related components - from our facility in Jiangxi Province. We work with mines, quarrying operations, and equipment distributors across Australia, South Africa, the Americas, Southeast Asia, and beyond. Our 42,000-square-meter plant handles the full production cycle in-house, from raw material inspection through casting, heat treatment, and final dimensional verification.
The work we do is unglamorous by nature. Wear parts are consumables - they are there to take punishment so the crusher does not. But getting them right matters: the wrong material grade, an inconsistent heat treatment, a dimensional mismatch on installation - any of these can cut service life significantly or cause unplanned downtime at the worst possible moment. That is the problem we focus on solving, order by order.
We are grateful for the customers who have trusted us with that work, and we do not take the relationship lightly.
To everyone observing the Dragon Boat Festival this season: Good health and peace to you.
